DJ Jan aka Jan Van Der Staey and Filip Vandueren join forces to deliver a stomping retro themed slice on Bonzai Classics titled Rock Da House. These two veterans mark their Bonzai debut with this one and they bring over 2 decade’s worth of experience to the table. Jan started to DJ in 1988 and became the resident at Illusion in 1993. The 90’s brought much success with releases on Dance Opera as part of the Illusion team and in the 2000’s he impressed with tracks such as X-Santos. A powerhouse on the European scene with a beefy back catalogue, we’re excited he is here at BC. Filip is responsible for a plethora of hits throughout the 90’s and 2000’s. He enjoys a healthy dose of releases on Dance Opera as he was also part of the Illusion team. In 1995 he co-founded Milk Inc. and went on to release dozens of top tracks as wells as releasing almost 20 albums. Another Belgian powerhouse we’re delighted to have on board.

Rock Da House intros with a pulsating bassline groove which is joined by crispy hi hats and building percussions. Pumping kick drums come through alongside rising synths as the rhythm gathers pace and forming into a solid full on monster of a track. A short break reveals mesmerizing strings and a rising intensity as the cool classic style vocals ring out. The main break hits us with that agitated bassline and metallic percussions before the beats return with a superb trance-like gated synth melody in tow. A top notch slice with all the characteristics of a retro groove and a distinct contemporary production, not to be missed.

The legendary trance duo Laurent Veronnez and Jurgen Leyers aka Fire & Ice are next in line for a special 25 years remix as part of our classics series. Heart & Mind gets a makeover from superlative trance DJ and producer Paul Pearson which is destined to become a firm favourite among the trance family all over the world. The guys burst onto the scene and took the trance world by storm in 1998, dominating our XTC imprint and other sub labels with tracks like Lost Emotions, Beyond My Control, Forever Young, Souvenir De Chine, Samoa and many more. Their sound became synonymous with the melodic, uplifting and energetic trance scene and hit after hit ensured their tracks always got peak time attention. At the top of their game they not only delivered quality tracks but numerous remix requests for a wide range of artists covering different genres opened them up to new audiences and cemented their place in the history of trance. In 2006 they took a step back, focusing on their solo ambitions before making a welcomed return in 2008, treating their throngs of fans to a couple of tentative farewell tracks. The original mix of Heart & Mind boasted a tight driving groove with melodic synths that soared into the stratosphere, taking us along for the ride. An absolute gem of a track that deserves a contemporary workout.

Paul Pearson is a hugely popular DJ and producer from the UK. He regularly appears at top venues alongside some of the biggest names in trance and has put out some fine original tracks and remixes since 2012 on labels such as Lost Language, Perfecto, Infrasonic and Enhanced Music to name just a few. He has graced the decks at Gatecrasher and Digital Society and he runs his own Pressure Podcast on AH FM and no doubt his profile will only get bigger as the years roll by. Here on the remix the intro sets off with a classic pumping beat as layered synths come together to dish out the energy. The bassline lifts the track beautifully, adding a tight bouncy groove as swirling pads and sweet melodies come through. The break descends into a serene sequence as that familiar melody fades in with some added vocal adding an extra spice. The synths open up for that hands in the air moment and a steady build up climaxes into full on mode. There is only one place this track will take you and that’s high in the sky with a wide brimming smile on your face, fantastic stuff.

Body-Shock’s 2000 slice Full Moon is our next special Bonzai Classics remix and at the helm this time we’ve got Freaked Frequency & The Digital Enzyme with an absolute gem of a track firmly rooted in the psy arena. Bjorn Wendelen (DJ Ghost) and Laurent Veronnez (L-Vee) formed Body-Shock in 2000 and their first release – Sleepless – had this superb effort as the B-side. Full Moon quickly became a trance anthem in the super club era and was notably included on John 00 Fleming’s For Your Ears Only 3 x vinyl compilation. After several releases Yves Deruyter came on board to continue a string of top club hits that are still very much at the heart of classic nostalgia sets. The Body-Shock sound never disappoints, it derives intensity and that feeling of full on, non-stop thumping music.

Freaked Frequency aka Serbian psy trance aficionado Milojko Jaric joins forces once again with Bournemouth, UK based artist The Digital Enzyme aka Martin J Frewer to deliver a rip roaring slice to get the energy flowing. The guys have collaborated on several other psy projects in the past and they certainly form a formidable partnership in the studio. Milojko started to produce electronic music in his early teens and over 10 years he gained great success and popularity on the trance scene worldwide. His sound is recognizable and very unique with a harmony of various elements and positive vibes. DJ and producer Martin is known for his quality sets that sends the floors crazy. In recent years he has found himself in the studio knocking out slamming tracks and no doubt he will continue to provide the soundtrack to many venues in the future. On the remix here we get nothing short of a raucous psy fuelled energetic monster of a track that will most definitely tear up the floors. From the very first few bars you get locked on thanks to classic psy sounds on top of a mesmerizing bassline. A cool breaks style beat leads us up to the full on experience complete with pumping kicks and a chugging bass covered in sharp synth hits. The energy levels continue to rise as the original melody comes through which works beautifully with the contemporary structure and sound. A definite must have for sure, not to be missed.

The Bonzai Classics remixes just keep on coming. This time we’ve enlisted the very talented and popular remix trio of Rick Simmonds, Stephen Jones and Liam Melly aka The Space Brothers. The guys get to grips with The Green Martian – Industry and churn out a fitting tribute to a club stomper. The man behind The Green Martian – Laurent Veronnez – gave us this cut back in 2000 on our Tranceportation imprint and the track instantly became a firm favourite with its minimalistic approach and that sizzling, intense build up. It was quickly snapped up by Serious Records and went on to feature in many compilations. Durango 95 provided a memorable remix back in the day that would still stand out in today’s scene. Prior to this Laurent was knocking out track after track and hit after hit as Airwave and many other guises, but The Green Martian project always delivered having already had 8 tracks that rocked clubland. Several other release would follow in the next few years before Laurent put more focus into his main projects. We are delighted with this newest remix, and just so you know, The Green Martian hasn’t gone away.

The Space Brothers was started by Rick and Stephen before Liam joined the group in 2014. Throughout the mid to late nineties the group became synonymous with pumping remixes as well as several anthemic trance cuts including Shine, Forgiven and Heaven Will Come. Their own tracks were given the remix treatment by the likes of Lange, Olmec Heads and Matt Darey and their debut album featured a special mix of all tracks from Paul Oakenfold. They also had mega hits under different aliases including Ascension (Someone), Chakra (Home, I Am), Force Majeure, Klymax, Lustral (Everytime), Oxygen, Sapphire, Simmonds & Jones and The Realm which marked them as legends on the scene. In 2014 Irish producer Liam Melly joined up and their first release as a trio – Forever – was very well received. One year later they put their name to this remix we have today and we’re proud to be able to officially release it on our Bonzai Classics imprint. The remix gets going in true club style with a nice punchy kick drum and rhythmic percussion backdrop before a snare roll takes us to the bass drop which delivers a charging rolling bassline and that infectious gated synth. The track builds and builds before breaking to reveal brighter, wide open synths backed with cool acid lines that weave in and out of the sound. The main break goes into almost complete silence which is broken by a soft rising pad that creates a dreamy atmosphere. But the pleasantries don’t linger too long as we begin an intense climactic build up that ends with a huge wall of noise before the beats take over once more. An epic cut that will still raise the roof at any venue.

Reworkings of classic tracks just wouldn’t be the same without an accompanying vinyl release. On this 12″ we’ve selected three sublime cuts to fill out the grooves and deliver the ultimate listening experience. Side A features Jones & Stephenson – The First Rebirth (Charlotte de Witte Remix) which offers a raid on the senses thanks to Charlotte’s contemporary take. Expect sizzling melodies and a driving Techno groove. Side B1 holds Lefto’s remix of Thunderball – Bonzai Channel One which dishes out a pumping tech fuelled vibe full of scathing synths and that iconic vocal we all know and love, one for the big events here. B2 features probably the most unique of all the reworkings. Stuff gives us their Bonzai Tribute Mix which is a sublime mash-up between Blue Alphabet – Cybertrance and Cherrymoon Trax – The House Of House. Mostly done with live instruments, this quintet have certainly captured the essence of those early tracks. A seminal track that personifies Bonzai’s stance in the electronic music world.

Belgian online platform Red Bull Elektropedia have – as part of our 25 years celebrations – commissioned a series of special reworks of some of our notable classics. Red Bull Elektropedia have been a major force in documenting Belgian culture and nightlife since 2009. Their output exudes professionalism and the content is always interesting and accurately detailed. We’ve worked with them in the past and when they said they wanted to help us celebrate this year, of course we accepted. They have enlisted the talents of some of Belgium’s finest contemporary music artists to work their magic, and we couldn’t be more happy with the results. The reworks are available on CD, Digital and Vinyl and if you head over to Red Bull Elektropedia’s website you will find excellent mini docus on each artist. On top of that they have also produced an in depth documentary around the Bonzai story. Featuring rare unseen footage of Bonzai studios and the artists that passed through its doors, we also get various testimonies on the good times and tougher times from label founder Christian Fly Pieters and business partner Marnik Braeckevelt as well as contributions from several other key players from the early Bonzai days, artists and fans. The documentary will be aired at special screenings on 14th October 2017 and then general release online shortly after.

On CD and Digital platforms we have seven superb tracks that have been transformed into something unique, fun and brilliant. First up on the reworks we have the talented quintet that make up the outfit Stuff, and their interpretation of Cybertrance and The House Of House. Since their debut album in 2015, this band of musical brothers have used their eccentric methods to take on several genres to come up with something quite unique. Familiar with the early Bonzai sound, the guys have captured the raw essence of rave in a contemporary fashion resulting in a sublime mash-up. The track intros with a toy piano style Cybertrance melody with pitched down vocal alongside a pacey kick drum. The live instruments really add a lot of warmth and work perfectly with the synths. The magic on this one is the blend between the two iconic tracks, it creates a raucous atmosphere that will bring memories flooding back.Charlotte de Witte gets to grips with The First Rebirth and man oh man what track it is. With a solid rep as a Techno DJ, Charlotte is a perfect candidate for this one thanks to her hands on approach to production which has resulted in several floor killers. Here she takes the ultimate Bonzai classic from a dizzying 160BPM to a nice and groovy 130BPM while bridging the gap between past and present. The track intros with a warming glow as lush kick drums lead the way followed by that infectious melody which fades in slowly. Bubbling underneath the track you’ll find a wonderfully warm bassline that lures you in, locking you into the groove. On the break the melodies dominate and hypnotise before Charlotte unleashes those pitching synths in a huge climax, slamming us back into full on mode. A definite must have that will keep the serious Techno floors moving.

Antwerp based producer Roman Hiele takes on another Jones & Stephenson cut, this time it’s a track that ended a successful run of releases for the Belgian duo – The Last Rebirth. Roman has a deep interest in experimentation and he rose to prominence after appearing at the Red Bull Music Academy in 2015. He has certainly dug deep on this one, stripping away almost all remnants of the original to leave us with a trippy space age construction that will leave its mark on your brain. Strange and eerie sounds provide the intro before a severe pitched down chord pad from the original takes over. You can just about hear the melody as it tries to force its way through the melancholy and all the while the pitching down continues, locking you in with its hypnotizing allure. Simply outstanding, great vision and expert craftsmanship in sound design.

Worldwide touring DJ and producer Lefto is up next and here he takes on another seminal classic in the mighty Bonzai Channel One. Pumping kick drums introduce us to this one before huge synth stabs take over alongside that iconic Bonzai zai zai zai zai vocal. The track breaks suddenly to reveal the ‘my style’ vocal followed by a slow building synth stab that reaches a sizzling climax before getting back up to full on banging tempo. One for the big festivals here that does not disappoint.

Goose’s drummer – B, is at the helm for a reworking on the superb Wayfarer by Phrenetic System. Known for his signature electro style B has used some very clever techniques in the studio to get the sound he was after. He has taken the original staccato riff that was the highlight of many sweaty club nights and transformed it into a superb, dirty Techno synth line, all done with mostly hardware synths and a dosing of intuition. The surreal intro lulls you into a euphoric choir like sequence before those great big dirty Techno synths come at you and get right in your face. A solid drum section keeps things moving as B gradually raises the intensity until you can touch the atmosphere. A stand out track that will dominate many floors no doubt.

Ghent based duo Asa Moto have opted for something a little different from our back catalogue. They’ve chosen Cherrymoon Traxs’ Plastic Body, Liquid Mind for the contemporary treatment and they’ve came up with something unique and special. Although a bit too young to have had the full Bonzai experience, Gilles and Olli were excited to join this project and proceeded to familiarise themselves with our back catalogue. Instead of using samples they recreated each melody by ear and then fed it all through to their plethora of equipment in the studio. The remix takes on the melodic attributes of the original in a house music style. The groove here is magical, with a steady swaying tempo you will soon find yourself totally immersed in the warmth and those mesmeric melodies. A solid slice for the house heads.

Sue Avenue aka Pieter Santens and Hannes Ledoux were given the task of reworking Blue Alphabet’s Genetic Trance with astounding results. The guys admitted to struggling with this one as they usually have a different approach to remixing. With a lack of modern remixing tools such as stems, they resorted to listening to the track to get in the vibe and then isolating the parts they wanted. On the remix you can expect a smooth house groove with warm rhodes and an infectious acid line that lights the track up brilliantly. Tight drums and hypnotic basses tie everything together beautifully making this one an absolute must have.

DJ Furax aka Alexandre joins the roster on our new Bonzai Classics series with a raucous rendition of the legendary Soushkin by Dream Your Dream. With an extreme energy level and master technique, Furax combines various harder styles into one blend of high quality music. He is passionate about music and is inspired by the sounds of Amnesia, Conffeti’s and Lords of Acid. He started to DJ at just 15 and in 1993 he got his first official gig, since then he went on to share the decks with a host of top jocks from around the world. Aside from his many Belgium based residencies, he has performed at large events such as B2S, Q-Dance, ID&T. He was the first artist to introduce live performances in Belgium where all his compositions and remixes were carried out on real time. These live acts have existed for over 10 years now under the names Hip-notic 303 and more recently, FVL LIVE and now Furax Fire Force as well as his totally new concept A Truth LIVE, with remixes of all the best hits out at the moment and retro remixes of his own compositions.

Karim Boux and Roel Reynders where responsible for some of Bonzai’s most famous releases as Dream Your Dream, but they also cut some fine wax as Belgica Wave Party, Dreamland and The Daltons. Karim was also known for his A B C And D guise as well as being part of the Thunderball duo with Jan Vervloet. Roel also ran out as Traxcalibur and made up one half of Attaboy, also with Jan Vervloet. Between them, these guys recorded some huge tracks that still offer much today. Soushkin was the follow up to their first Bonzai outing – II The Belgica Wave Anthem, in 1993. The intro alone would be used in many sets and when that voice came and the melody kicked in you knew the place was going to rock and rock hard. On the remix today we get a healthy dosing of the original vocals which will be to the delight of many. Right from the off we’re thrown into the heart of a pumping retro infused groove thanks to those familiar synths and melodies. A muted kick drum leads the way as hoover style synths rise up alongside snappy snares and shuffling rhythmic percussions. The carnival atmosphere of the original comes through as the energy levels rise. On the break we get a short respite before those screeching notes join in and take us up to a powerful climax and some gabber-esque kick drums. A massive remix that will definitely separate the serious hard headed clubber from the toe tappers.
